Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community receives Courtesy Call from the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to ASEAN​ASEAN Main Portal

 

H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), received a courtesy call from H.E. Elisa Maria da Silva, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to ASEAN, on 18 June 2026 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on Timor-Leste’s engagement in ASEAN Community-building efforts, particularly under the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community pillar, following its accession as the 11th Member State of ASEAN.

The meeting focused on opportunities to strengthen cooperation in advancing ASEAN’s socio-cultural priorities, including inclusive and sustainable development, human development, social protection, education, health, and people-centred regional cooperation. ASEAN and Timor-Leste also exchanged views on Timor-Leste’s integration into ASEAN mechanisms and its participation in regional initiatives under the ASCC Strategic Plan and ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045: Our Shared Future.

The meeting further provided an opportunity to discuss Timor-Leste’s preparations and aspirations for its future ASEAN Chairmanship. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and supporting Timor-Leste’s meaningful participation in ASEAN processes, contributing to the realization of a resilient, inclusive, sustainable, and people-centred ASEAN Community.
