Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to ASEAN Present Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN​ASEAN Main Portal

 

JAKARTA, 24 June 2026 – Ambassador Dimitrios Michalopoulos presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today, marking the assumption of his post as the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to ASEAN.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Michalopoulos on his new role and encouraged the Hellenic Republic to explore cooperation with ASEAN, both bilaterally and under the ASEAN-European Union (EU) partnership, in areas of mutual interest, including maritime cooperation, green shipping, disaster management as well as in education, culture and arts.

Ambassador Michalopoulos expressed his commitment to fostering engagement between ASEAN and the Hellenic Republic, building on the momentum of the Hellenic Republic’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in 2022. He also highlighted the Hellenic Republic’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2027 as an opportunity to advance the implementation of the EU Indo-Pacific Strategy by strengthening cooperation with regional organisations, particularly ASEAN, while upholding respect for the ASEAN Centrality.

The Hellenic Republic appointed its first Ambassador to ASEAN in 2009. Ambassador Michalopoulos succeeds Ambassador Bezirtzoglou, who completed her tenure on 27 September 2025.
