ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) Statement on Safeguarding Food Security and Agricultural Supply Chains Amid Global UncertaintiesASEAN Main Portal

  1. We, the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF), express our concern over the evolving situation in the Middle East and its potential implications on global food security, agricultural production, and the stability of agricultural input supply chains, particularly fertilisers.
  2. We recognise that disruptions to energy markets, rising transportation costs, and constraints in the supply of key agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, are already exerting pressure on agricultural production systems and food prices, with disproportionate impacts on vulnerable populations across ASEAN. We underscored the importance of maintaining secure and open sea lanes, ensuring freedom of navigation, the safe, unimpeded and continuous transit passage of vessels and aircraft in straits used for international navigation, and preserving the unimpeded flow of essential goods, including food, energy and key inputs, in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
